Fourth largest blue caught in the Bahamas
Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas - Fishing in his first Bahamas Billfish Championship, angler Bradford
Harris of Irving, Texas landed a 904 pound blue marlin after fighting the fish for more than eight hours.
Fishing aboard Allied Richard Bertram Marine Group customer David Disiere’s,Sweetums, with Captain Todd Astles at the helm, Harris exhibited skill and a great deal of patience to subdue the big blue on 100-pound tackle and 300-pound leader.
This year’s BBC series, which happens to also be sponsored by ALlied Richard Bertram Marine Group. Since the start of the BBC in 1973, only four fish over 900 pounds have been caught in the Bahamas and
all have been caught during a Bahamas Billfish Championship tournament. In 1979, Sam Jennings, fishing out
of Bimini, set the current Bahamas’ blue marlin record with a blue weighing 1060.5 pounds. At the final
tournament of the 1992 Series, Richard Karron caught a blue weighing 920 pounds during the Boat Harbour
Championship. For years later, during the Treasure Cay Championship, Rick Smith landed a blue marlin
weighing 1030 pounds. Harris’ 904 pound blue makes it the fourth largest blue marlin caught in the Bahamas
and the third largest caught in the waters off of the Abacos.
